St. Petersburg

Peterhof

One of the summer residences of the tsars, Peterhof has a commanding view of the Baltic.

The Marine Canal enabled the tsars to sail from the Gulf of Finland up to the Great Palace.

We went to Peterhof by catching the hyrofoil from outside The Hermitage.

Peterhof is surrounded by very extensive gardens.

The flowers were in full bloom. There were many different coloured tulips.

Beautifully cared for gardens.

The Grand Cascade in front of the Great Palace.

Lots and lots of gilded fountains.

Peterhof was far more impressive than Versailles near Paris.
