Banff - 2002

With an around the world air ticket, we flew out of Melbourne on the 10th of May to Vancouver in Western Canada.
 Next flight was to Calgary then we flew over the North Pole to Frankfurt
 in Germany where we went on a Trafalgar Highlights of New Europe tour.
(Frankfurt to Berlin, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, The Czech Republic and Rothenburg before returning to Frankfurt.)
After this tour we flew to Istanbul in Turkey and went on a Trafalgar tour of Turkey.
Then to Singapore via Dubai and back to Melbourne after 54 days.

We drove from Drumheller to Banff.

We had a pleasant walk visiting 2 waterfalls. Parts of the waterfalls and river were still frozen.

Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada.
As you can see the lake was frozen over. We saw (and heard) some avalanches while we were here. They sounded like overhead jets.

In order for trains to climb the Canadian Rockies, engineers built a spiral tunnel inside a mountain.

The Burgess Shale - Yoho National Park near Banff.

On this snow covered ridge a large number of Pre-Cambrian fossils have been found. 
The area is known as The Burgess Shale and is one of the world's most important fossil sites
and continues to play a pivotal role in the understanding of the emergence of early animal life.

We travelled up The Icefields Parkway to Jasper.
We returned to Calgary and flew over the North Pole to Frankfurt in Germany to continue our around-the-world trip.
Unfortunately our cameras were stolen from our hotel room in Calgary and so our Jasper and Calgary photos were lost.
