Pergamum - 2002

The Acropolis.
The ruins of the Temple of Athina. 
There was a very steep amphitheatre with well preserved underground arched passageways.
From the 3rd Century BC to the 1st century AD, Pergamum (Bergama) was a powerful and cultured kingdom.

A line of rulers beginning with a general under Alexander the Great ruled over this small but wealthy kingdom.































Water was piped in with aquaducts and pipes.
There had been a library here that rivalled the famous library at Alexandria. 
Parchment (goat skin) was invented here. Hence it can be said that the first books started here.
