Spegazzini Glacier - Patagonia - Argentina - 2005

In January-February 2005 we visited South America before and after our Antarctic Cruise.

49-days - Melbourne - Auckland - Buenos Aires (Argentina) - Ushuaia - 10-day Antarctic Cruise - Ushuaia - El Calafate -
Perito Moreno Glacier - El Calafate - El Chalten - Puerto Natales (Chile) - Torres del Paine NP - Chilean Fiords ferry - Puerto Varas -
Lakes crossing - Bariloche (Argentina) - Buenos Aires - Auckland - Melbourne

Whilst not the biggest of the major glaciers in Los Glaciares National Park, Spegazzini Glacier is a hugely impressive sight.
Its main feature is the great height of its head which reaches 135 m, making it the highest in Los Glaciares National Park and one of the most important.
It owes its name to the Italian-Argentine botanist, Carlos Luis Spegazzini, who was the first to study the local flora.
