Iguaçu Falls -  Brazil  - 2007

In July-August 2007, a fortnight after Drew was born (and after we visited him in Perth), we visited South America for our third time.

(59-days - Melbourne - Auckland - Santiago - Buenos Aires (Argentina)  - Iguassu Falls (Argentina and Brazil) - Buenos Aires - Salta -
Atacama Desert (Argentina and Chile) - Santiago - Quito (Ecuador) - Galapagos Islands - Quito - Bogata (Colombia) - Cartagena (Colombia)
  - Bogata - Caracas (Venezuela) - Angel Falls (Venezuela) - Caracas - Santiago - Auckland - Melbourne)

After 5 nights in Buenos Aires we flew to Iguassu Falls and crossed into Brazil.

Iguaçu Falls is a stunning sight and is Margaret's favourite place in the world.
 It is magic!!
There are a large number of individual falls over a distance of nearly 3km.

The best panoramic views are on the Brazilian side.

For the first two nights we stayed at the Hotel Tropical das Cataratas
overlooking the falls from the Brazilian side.

Ben and Crystal had been travelling the world for 15 months
and we caught up with them here.

Margaret was in her element.
She was so glad to see them!

Coatis

Coatis are a type of raccoon, their range extends from southern USA to northern Argentina.
They have a long snout and a long, striped, tapered tail.Several coatis may share a nest.
While the male prefers to travel alone, the females and their young tend to travel in bands of 4 to 50.
Coatis are omnivorous. They will eat almost anything that is edible: mice, rats, insects, worms, fruits, and seeds.
After a troupe finds a fruit-bearing tree such as a manzanita or prickly pear it will visit the tree daily until it is stripped.

(Brazilian side)

The four of us flew over the falls

You can see how close our hotel (Hotel Tropical das Cataratas) is to the falls.

Across the Iguazu River (and the border into Argentina) you can see the Sheraton Hotel
where we stayed a further 2 nights.

The two hotels face one another across the Iguazu River.
