In Oct-Nov-Dec 2009 I had a 6-week tour of
South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
My 2 tours this year wewre with Drifters, a South African travel
company.
My first trip was from Johannesburg to Cape Town via Durban.
The second tour was from Cape town through Namibia, Botswana and
Zimbabwe back to Johannesburg.
My tour crossed the
border from Namibia into Botswana.
Okavango Delta
The Okavango River headwaters start in the eastern highlands of Angola
and with its numerous tributaries it
flows through Namibia (called the Kavango) into Botswana to become the
Okavango Delta.
The Okavango Delta is Earth's largest inland delta.
It is formed as the river empties into swamps in the Kalahari Desert.
From Maun in Botswana we had a flight over it in a light plane (a
Cessna Centurian II).
You could see herds of animals from the air.
Back on the ground at Maun airport in Botswana.
Beautiful posters on buildings near the airport.
We had a bush camp
in the wilds of the delta.
Part of the journey was by mekoro (traditional dugout canoe) through
the water lillies.
