Brandberg - Namibia - 2009

The name Brandberg is Afrikaans and German for Fire Mountain, which comes from
its glowing color which is sometimes seen in the setting sun.

The main attraction here is the rock paintings presumably painted by the San people over 2000 years ago.
The most famous is "The White Lady".  In 1955 Abbe Henri Breuil described the painting as that of a white lady.
It has led to a lot of fables and  about the painting. The painting actually is not that of a white woman
but it is a image of a male.  The white colour of the body paint suggests it is a medicine man.

We had a very hot 2.5 km walk to see the paintings.
