Swakopmund - Namibia - 2009

Swakopmund is a pleasant, modern city on the Atlantic coast of Namibia, surrounded by desert.
Namibia, formerly South West Africa, administered by South Africa, became an independent country in 1990.
Up until the end of WW1, it was a German colony.  Consequently there are many fine old German buildings in the city.
It is a neat and tidy city and it felt safe to walk around.

It is surrounded by desert.

Unfortunately the aquarium was closed on Mondays.

The Crystal Cave shop had a good display.

Swakopmund Museum
They had an excellent display at this museum.

An Aardvark ... I have not seen a wild one on my 2 African trips.>

A porcupine
.

A Honey Badger.  They have been named the most fearless animal in the Guinness Book of World Records.
They have a large appetite for beehives.
I have only seen one disappearing into the distance.
