Bundi - 2010

From Ranthambore we travelled to Bundi through the arid Rajasthan countryside.

Tractors were decorated for the Diwali festival.

A tea house along the road.

No, I did not buy a drink here.

Intrepid have chosen their hotels well.
Another one in pleasant gardens, Ishwari Nhvas Hotel in Bundi.

It was sad to see hunting trophies on the wall of their dining room.

Throughout India there were a lot of people being transported in trailers towed by tractors.

A street dentist.

He sold glasses as a sideline.

A number of these places were once walled towns.

Bundi Palace
(Gah Palace)

A decaying edifice, Garh Palace dates from 1607.
Unfortunately it was neglected and left to the bats.
A former royal family has leased it and cleaned it up to some extent.

A steep incline up to the palace paved with rough cobblestones so that elephants could have got a firm footing.

The ramp where the royals mounted their elephants.

There were lots of paintings on the walls.

The royal bath.

Did Mitsubishi glean their logo from here?

Bundi - Bassi -  Pannagarh Camp
We had a 4-hour train trip from Bundi to Bassi and then we travelled in jeeps to Pannagarh Camp.
At Bundi station.

Some new-found friends on the train.

A fool on the train.

He likes Charlotte Church too.

The tents at Pannagarh Camp.

Welcome to the camp.
