From
Orchha, we had a 4-hour trip in comfortable 4WDs to
Khajurajo.
The Khajuraho temples were built between 950 and 1050AD by
the Chandela Rajput kings
who claimed that they descended from the moon god.
The sandstone carvings depict scenes from everyday life
including gods, goddesses, warriors, animals
and people sometimes engaged in kama sutra acts of love.
Love-bites in her armpit.
There is a thorn in my foot.
Another thorn.
Yet another thorn.
An interesting gargoyle.
The Eastern temples
While the western temples are the best known, there is another small
goup in the east.
We had a Hindu lunch at our local guide's house.
Plenty of chai, vegetable dishes, chipati, roti and a sweet.
