We travelled on 2 local buses from
Chanderi to Orchha.
The first bus was very crowded.
Fortunately we were at the first stop and got seats.
On the outskirts of Orchha we visited a NGO paper-making factory that
Intrepid sponsors.
The employees were happy to have their photos taken.
Orchha Palace
Orchha is a medieval town that for many years was hidden by the
surrounding wooded countryside.
Orchha means hidden.
It was founded by the Bundela chief, Raja Rudra Pratap, in the 16th
century as his capital of the Orchha princely state..
He died trying to save a cow from a lion.
Located on an island, Orcha Palace dates from 1531.

We
visited
Ram Raja Mandir temple while
a service was being held.
This temple was originally built as a palace.
It is the only temple where Rama is worshipped as a king (Raja).
There is a legend that Madhular, Shah's wife, brought a statue of the
God which required a specially built temple to house it.
When the Chatturbuj temple was ready, the idol proved impossible to be
moved and so stayed in the palace.
At the service the pilgrims made offerings of sweets to both the Gods
and the priests.
Chatturbuj temple. It was built to
house the Raja
statue.
The statue was unable to be moved from the Ram Raja Mandir palace.

Another Hindu temple. If a flag is flying, it is a temple in
use.
