Pushkar - 2010

From Udaipur we travelled by train to Ajmer and then in a mini-bus to Pushkar.

Pushkar is one of the 5 sacred dhams (pilgrimage sites for devout Hindus).
No alcohol, meat, chicken or eggs are able to be bought in shops or restaurants in the town.

We were lucky to be in Pushkar at the time of the Camel Fair.
Apparently there are over 50,000 camels and horses traded during the fair.

We had a 3-hour camel ride through Pushkar and the camel fair.

My camel's name was Rocky.

We had a cup of chai and were entertained by Indian musicians on a sand dune as we watched the sunset.

The Brhama Temple is one of only a few such Brhama Temples in the world.
Apparently Brhama wanted to perform  a yagna (self-mortification) at the lake,
and when his wife, Savitri, did not attend, he married another woman on a whim.
Saviti, understandably aggrieved, vowed that Brhama would not be worshipped anywhere else.

Savitri Temple
This temple, that is located at the top of the Ratnagiri Hill, is dedicated to Savitri, the wife of Lord Brhama.

Another pleasant hotel that IntrepidTravel has chosen.
