Udaipur - 2010
Udaipur is said to be India's "most romantic
city".
There are a number of fine buildings overlooking Lake Pichola.
The city was founded in 1559 when Maharana Udai Singh II took flight
from Chittorgarh by the Mughal emperor, Akbar.
As they resisted Muslim might, the city grew a reputation for patriotic
fervour and independence.

Once the royal summer palace dating from 1754, it is now a very
expensive exclusive luxury hotel.
It featured in the Bond movie, Octopussy.

An elephant "hitching post".
Surmounted by balconies, towers and cupolas and towering over Lake
Pichola,
Udaipur's City Palace is India's largest palace.
It is a conglomerate of buildings started in 1559 and continuing over
300 years.

For $12, I went on an optional tour in the morning.
First to the market, then breakfast at a local's
house, and finally a cooking school lesson.
