Haputale - 2011

Our tour-leader lived in this town.

For $2.50 we were able to drive a tuk-tuk.

We played cricket with the locals.

A tapestry on the wall of our hotel in Haputale.

The mother-in-law of our tour-leader.

Our tour-leader, Bruno and his wife, Sarojini, were proud to show us their house at Haputale.

Million-dollar views ....

Trekking in The Highlands
Our 14.5km trek on day 1 started from Bruno's house.
The first 6km were along a railway track through tea plantations.

We stayed overnight at a simple guest house.
It had once been the house of a tea plantation supervisor.

Trecking in the Highlands - Day 2

These ladies at the guest house cooked a delicious Hindu dinner for us last night.

There was great excitement at the the school when we passed by during their morning break.

The tea plantation provided a nursery for the children of the tea-pickers.
