Lake Issy-Kul  -  2013

Lake Issyk-Kul is the 10th largest lake in the world and is the 2nd largest saline lake (after the Caspian Sea).
It has a length of 180 km, a width of up to 60 km, and covers an area of 6,236 square km.
This makes it the 2nd largest mountain lake in the world behind Lake Titicaca in South America.

Cholopan-Ata is a resort town on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan.
During the Soviet era it was much frequented by vacationers  brought here in organized mass tours from other parts of the USSR.

Smart, modern accommodation at our resort at Cholopan.

The view of the Tian Shan mountains across the lake is impressive.
They form the border between Kyrgyzstan and China.

We found a friend, a visiting writer from Russia.

Hence its name which means "hot lake" in the Kyrgyz language.
