Bunratty Castle is located
in County Clare near Limerick.
The
name Bunratty, means the 'bottom' or end of the 'Ratty' river.
This river, alongside the castle, flows into the nearby Shannon
estuary.
The fourth castle on this site, the present structure, was built by the
MacNamara family around 1425.
At around 1500, Bunratty Castle came into the hands of the O'Briens.
We had an Irish Ceilidh evening at the castle.
Very good entertainment - Irish dancing and singing.
The dancers were multiskilled - they were also the waitresses.
The main course was Irish stew - not as good as what my mother used to
cook.
There was a folk village in the grounds of the castle.
Nowhere as good or extensive as Sovereign Hill Village in Ballaarat.
