New Ross  -  Ireland  -  2014

New Ross is a river port on the south-east Irish coast.  Many emigrants left Ireland for the United States, Canada,
Australia and other places during the Irish potato famine in the late 1840s.

Dunganstown, 6km south of New Ross is the ancestral home of the Kennedy family which includes John F.Kennedy,
the 35th President of the USA, whose great-grandfather Patrick Kennedy emigrated to America from there.

Dunbrody is a replica of an emigrant ship.  The original was built in Quebec in 1845.
There were over 200 people in steerage. They were only allowed on deck for an hour each day.
Many died from disease on the voyage.

The steerage passengers had to do their own cooking on deck.

Up to 10 steerage passengers had to occupy each bunk.

There were also some first class passengers on board who paid 22 pounds for their journey.
