The Ring of Kerry
is a
180km-long circular tourist route in
County Kerry, south-western Ireland.
Looking
across the water to
Dingle Peninsula.
The remains of Daniel O'Connell's
boyhood house at Cahirciveen.
He campaigned for the rights of Catholics and in 1828 was the first
Catholic to be elected to the British Parliament.
He was a leader in the struggle to get the law changed to allow other
religions beside Protestants to build churches in Ireland.
On to town of Waterville.
The first successful transatlantic cable was finally laid after a
number of attempts in 1865 by the Anglo American Telegraph Company
between Heart's Content in Newfoundland and Labrador and
Valentia
Island near Waterville.
The cable station brought much activity to Waterville and increased the
town's size.
