Jossingfjord
The fjord is known as the location of the Altmark Incident,
where, during
World War II, on February 16, 1940,
the British destroyer Cossack
managed to free prisoners taken by the Admiral Graf Spee
from the German
tanker Altmark.
Two Allied beaufighter planes collided while attacking German shipping
hiding in the fjord during the last stages of World War 2.
This is the memorial to the 4 New Zealand flight crew who died.
