Stykkishólmur is
a fishing town located by
Breiðafjörður Bay on the north of
Snæfellsnes
peninsula,
and is surrounded by wonderful views of the innumberable
islands.
According to local legend there are only two things in the world that
cannot be counted: the stars in the night sky and the craggy islets in
the bay here.
We climbed the magnificent basalt cliff for the view.
Stykkishólmurskirkja
Stykkishólmur's
futuristic church is a striking white structure with a
sweeping bell tower that looks like a ship's vent or a giant vertebra.
It was consecrated in 1980 and is also used as
a concert
hall.
The
interior features hundreds of suspended lights and a large painting of
the Mother and Child floating in the night sky.
