Godafoss (Icelandic: waterfall of the gods or
waterfall of
the goði) was a spectactular sight to see on my 71st birthay!
In the year 999 or 1000 the Lawspeaker Þorgeir
Ljósvetningagoði, after a lot of thought made
Christianity
the official religion of Iceland; the alternative being
Paganism.
After his conversion it is said that upon returning from the
Alþingi at Þingvellir, Þorgeir threw his
statues of
the Norse gods into the waterfall.
