Katherine Gorge is now called Nitmiluk Gorge and is part of Nitmiluk National Park.
As part of our 54-day, 5-flights, around Australia trip in April-May 2001, we went on a 3 gorge boat tour.
Between the gorges we walked along rocky tracks.
250km southeast of Darwin, the gorges and the surrounding landscape
have great ceremonial significance to the local Jawoyn people.
Katherine Gorge is made up of thirteen gorges, with rapids and
falls, and follow the Katherine River, which begins in Kakadu.
